Motorists are being warned the congestion on the M6 caused by a serious accident could last for several more hours.
All lanes of the M6 were closed from around 10.50am this morning as emergency services were scrambled to the scene between junctions 17 and 18 (for Sandbach and Holmes Chapel respectively).
Police and ambulance crews are currently still on the scene.
