COUNCIL leaders have rejected 'contentious' recommendations to sell off several green spaces for housing.
Members of Newcastle Borough Council previously voted in favour of disposing of sites such as Chinky Park, in Kidsgrove, within the next two years.
But cabinet members have opted to maintain the council's existing asset disposal strategy, with only minor amendments.
